Unwilling Accomplice

So I've been in Gauteng for the past couple of days and have enjoyed every second of it! Sometimes I forget that I'm not a minority in this country. But sometimes I forget that Cape Town is another country.

And in true Jo'burg fashion I ended being an accomplice to a ridiculous heist.

Firstly after Voicetags show on Friday two of the biggest problems I know decided to combine forces and meet up with the rest of the Jo'burg brethren while the rest of us stumbled around the Woods. One of these problems was Pretoria based and had left his car at a previous location, So when he realised that a strip club mission at 04:00 AM was a rather useless notion he decided to steal the others car. "Mchana, please go into the garage for me and buy me some airtime and yourself a packet of chips." Once the other was inside the man was in fourth gear by the time the other was still making his way to the counter for the airtime purchase.

I hear about this story on Saturday night when I see that the car that belongs in Jo'burg is all of a sardine in Pretoria, "Hau ndoda, what's happening here?" we ask... "I had no option" was the response.

Sunday: a trip to Jo'burg to drop off the car and pick up the other, we start at another friends place first where we see flashing lights. Talk of a lunch, liquor and female company is enough to deter us from fetching the other car on the other side of town. I can see what's coming. "This is guy is going to do it again." I tell a friend of mine over the phone. 20:00 "Mchana, jonga, there's a braai happening at my place and there's no way I can't be there so what we're going to do is take this car again and this guy is just going to have to understand." "Dude I don't want to be a part of this. Cause this guy is gana call and shout at me cause your phone will be off." "Okanye ndizokhu shiya apha wena and you find your own way home." "Shit." "Ja I thought so. Plus there's all this at my house except it's better, so let's go, you start walking to the car and give me 30 seconds." Sure enough 40 seconds later we were in the car making what ended up being a 12minute getaway from Midrand to Pretoria, while the other "sterring" constantly trying to call our phones.

An unwilling accomplice, I had to comply. What else could I have done? Oh Gauteng...
